What is PaceNotes?
A combination of hardware-based telematics with the latest Smartphone technology, PaceNotes has been created with the novice driver in mind. Facilitating a digital connection between learner drivers and driving instructors, PaceNotes will allow learner drivers to track and evaluate driving lesson progress, whether through a driving instructor or with a parent/guardian, creating a more informed learner-driver experience and a more fulfilling relationship between novice drivers, instructors and information/resource providers, better preparing new drivers for navigating on Britain’s network of roads and motorways.
How does PaceNotes record my journeys?
PaceNotes uses telematics technology which monitors driving behaviour. Once the app is downloaded and you choose to start recording a journey, it will record your activity to your app and thus, the Driving Instructor Portal. Shared only with an instructor you choose to connect with, every time you have a practice session or driving lesson, PaceNotes will record information about your journey. As a learner driver, you will be able to review your journeys, the types of roads you’ve driven on, the climate you’ve driven in and evaluate how you felt your lesson went, providing more informed detail on how you’re progressing to licensed independence, every time you get behind the wheel.
How much data does the app use when running?
While the data use may vary dependent on the type of smartphone you are using, the app uses between 10kb and 20kb of data per hour, and shouldn’t equate to more than 2.5mb per month.
What mobile phones are compatible with the app?
Smartphones running iOS 8.2 or higher. We are working on an Android version of the app, which will be released soon and will support version 5.1 (Lollipop) or higher.
Will PaceNotes work abroad?
Yes, but make sure the phone you are using has necessary data built for international roaming.
Does the app continue to record in areas of low signal?
When driving through an area of low signal the data recorded will remain on the phone. Then the next time the phone has signal, or is connected to the internet, the journey will update on the app.
The app asks for permission to access my location – Why?
During a lesson, we use the phone location to record your position.
We use this data to provide feedback on road types, weather and the time of day your lesson takes place. Don’t worry, none of this will be recorded unless you select the start button on your phone to record a lesson or practice session.
